Park's Prayer Letter (No. 9) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Date: Sep. - Nov. 1997
Greetings from Ethiopia !
We thank you for your love and prayers.
We are all well and we had great family time together . Jason and Anna have been here at Jimma for 9 weeks. They enjoyed running around the compound and helping some of our ministries. Jason put his energy on making his tree house on a mango tree, back of our garden. Anna made good friends with the children of our neighbor missionary. We praise that they understood our ministry and showed their interest about it.
Now Jason and Anna went back to school in Addis. From this school year, Jason starts 5th grade and Anna does 4th grade.They are taken care of by two different families. They have expected to meet these families and to go back to school. Jason shares the room with 3 fifth grade boys and lives with 2 older boys in a boy's boarding. Anna shares the room with a third grade girl and lives with 2 older girls in a girl's boarding. They are happy with their room mates and friends at school. We hope that this school year will pass more easily for both of us, Jason and Anna than last year.
Besides the family time we were very happy to receive 11 young people from Korea. They visited us and brought lots of Korean food we missed. They did evangelism program with Jong Kook and 11 Ethiopian young people "Shalom sinning group". During Aug. 6 - 14, they travelled many places from Jimma to South West of Ethiopia, toward Sudan Border.
The trip was planned for a full scheduled of the ministry. Three programs were scheduled in every town for every day of the trip with the help of the local churches of various denominations. Wherever we went they were waiting for us to listen the gospel and to be encouraged by the program. We only had two programs in some of the places due to time, and only once in Mizan due to rumors from the O...people. The outcome of the program was great blessing, ministering to nearly 7,770 peoples in 17 programs during the 9 active days of the trip. About 192 Bibles were distributed and tracks were sold. To the Glory of God, 34 people came to a personal encounter with Jesus Christ !
One day we were invited to supper with other boarding parents in Anna's boarding. One of the parents who works at the area of Surma people near Sudan border, far from Jimma said that he was really happy to hear that one of his Bible study member received Jesus Christ through one of the programs we had at Mizan city Hall. He has been doing Bible study with this man, at last he could see the fruit of his sawing with the gospel. One of his friend announced the news through the radio that this brother had received Jesus Christ. We pray that Surma people can be reached the Gospel through this man (he is the regional director).
Grace has been working with Sunday school teachers of the Compassion Ethiopia Jimma. They had a great time with 216 children and their parents during 3 days' Bible school program. They invited preacher each days and had lots of activities together. The subject of the program was " God loves us". On the 2nd day, they invited the parents of children for the program and celebrated "Parents' Day". They listened the message of the Gospel enjoyed watching the activities prepared by their children. Children showed what they have learned (drama, songs, painting, games and memory verse) from Sunday School. At the end of the program, when a preacher asked them to follow Jesus Christ, they all answered "Yes". Grace and 16 teachers pray that the family of Compassion children will come to Jesus Christ.
The following shows that we had reached out in the South-West part of Jimma during last August with the team.
*KHC( Kale Hiwot Church) means the Word of Life in Amharic, which works with SIM Ethiopia.
